An update on Planning Reforms

There’s recently been a flurry of planning and development activity in the West Hampstead and Fortune Green area.

There has been the planning application for 1100 homes on the Cricklewood B&Q site just over the border into Barnet, and there’s a live consultation on plans for developing the O2 centre car park – please comment here: tinyurl.com/y2fotrep.

Radical Changes on their way

The Conservative Government has also been consulting on radical changes to the planning system. Consultation will take place on Borough wide plans, and on which areas should be protected from development, or be growth areas. In growth areas there will be no consultation on individual planning applications.

Local Councillor in Fortune Green Flick Rea explains: “The new system is a poorly thought out back of the envelope idea. It’s a one size fits all plan, which won’t suit urban areas like Camden, with very little spare development land. You might not think Camden planning gets it right all the time, but at least residents can get involved in local decisions.”
